I completed my Bachelor of Biological Sciences (Honours), majoring in Conservation Biology at La Trobe University. My honours research focused on comparing various trapping/ detection methods for surveying reptiles. Since completing honours I have been working as an ecological consultant and have experience in a range of areas including flora and fauna surveys, habitat surveys, pre-clearance checks, fauna management plans, trapping, wind farm mortality monitoring, fauna salvage and translocation, as well as a sound knowledge on the Victorian and federal legislation governing wildlife. I have extensive knowledge on animal behaviour and health as well as extensive animal handling experience having worked as a veterinary nurse for over 7 years. I have also volunteered my time as a wildlife rescuer with Wildlife Victoria for over 10 years.

With over 20 years in conservation and ecology I have a background in Behavioural Ecology with a focus on threatened species and threatening processes. My research involved monitoring avian behaviour, including trapping, banding, radio tracking and habitat assessments investigating features associated with dieback in Eucalypt woodlands and forests.
I have thirteen years experience teaching Ecology at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Prior to moving into consulting I worked at La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary creating a Citizen Science program for university undergraduates and community members. This role involved project management, designing and implementing research projects, analysing and reporting on data, applying for grants, managing OH&S and liasing with teachers, industry, community and academics. I have experience writing for a wide variety of publications. Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds, the lead author on a number of scientific journal articles, report writing and management plan writing.
I have a solid knowledge of flora and fauna species and ecological communities and have played an important role in providing advice and working in the field on a number of Melbournes largest infrastructure and urban development projects. I am able to advise clients with respect to their obligations under Commonwealth and State Government environmental legislation and policy. My field experience includes flora, fauna and habitat assessment and monitoring, fauna salvage and relocation, hazardous tree management and advising on minimising habitat loss and enhancing habitat value. I am particularly interested in the use of tree hollows and tree hollow alternatives such as nest boxes and chainsaw hollows.
